MONROE — On Nov. 26, the Monroe School Board:
● Approved a community donation by Monroe Truck Equipment of a Lincoln 225 Precision TIG Welder to the Monroe High School Tech Department valued at $3,100.
● Accepted $3,000 in donations from the Optimist Club and $500 from the Monroe Woman’s Club for the MHS All Access Arts program.
● Approved a community donation from an anonymous source of $20 for the Backpack Buddies Program. There was also a donation of $100 each from Larry and Sherri Hendrickson and Investment Club 101 for the program. Maple Leaf Cheese & Alpine Slicing & Cheese Conversion also donated cheese sticks for the program.
On Monday, the Monroe School Board:
● Handed out the Lamp of Learning Awards to students at each of the elementary schools and Monroe Middle School and Monroe High School, also granting a staff member award to Northside Principal Amy Timmerman.
● Accepted handmade mittens for use by students donated by Monroe Clinic volunteers.
● Approved the district emergency safety plan as required by recent state guidelines. District Administrator Rick Waski said the requirements were received the day before Thanksgiving break and need to be approved by the state by Jan. 1, leaving December the only month to approve the plan. Waski thanked administrative secretary Cindy Rupnow for hours of work on the project and noted that the district was lucky to already have 80 percent of the plan following the National Incident Management System outline. “I really think these are better plans than we had before,” Waski said. “I think it’s more thorough. It’s more site specific.”
● Accepted a $1,200 donation from Alpha Delta Kappa Omicron Sorority for the Summer School to Home Program.
● Appointed Dan Harrigan to Monroe Public Library Board of Trustees.
● Accepted a request for unpaid leave of absence by a long-term employee for personal business to begin Jan. 21.
● Approved the 2019-20 school year calendar with the first day of school set for Sept. 3 and the final day June 5, 2020.
● Accepted a donation of roughly $375 worth of new steel in various forms to be used for manufacturing projects from American Axle & Manufacturing, formerly Grede Foundry.
● Heard a presentation form MHS Principal Chris Medenwaldt and Associate Principal Jeriamy Jackson on the pros and cons of an open campus at the high school.
● Accepted a donation of $875 for the Backpack Buddies Program as the final payment of an annual allocation of $3,500 from United Way of Green County Inc. for the program.
● Approved hiring Amara Hartwig for the position of crossing guard at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School.
