Occupation: Educational Program Manager for the School District of Beloit
Age: 44
What qualifies you for the position: I am an advocate for children.
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree from UW LaCrosse and currently working on a Masters Degree in Education
Previous experience: I've been on the school board since 2007 and have been a contributing member because of my background in education.
Q: Why are seeking a seat on the Monroe School Board?
A: I am running for re-election because I believe that all children have the right to the highest quality education that there is.
Q: Do you support the current school referendum on the April 5 ballot? Why or why not?
A: I do support the referendum. If the district is going to continue to educate our children at the level of quality it is then we need the communities help by passing the referendum. The state funding for schools has been broken since 1993 and the only way to continue running is with referendums.
Q: The current state budget proposal is posing potential budget concerns for many local school districts. How would you ensure Monroe has a balanced budget if?
A: As long as the referendum is passed then Monroe will have a balanced budget. The district had already planned for reductions for the 2011-2012 school year and will adjust the best possible way for children due to the governor's budget repair bill.
Q: What are other pressing issues or problems are facing the Monroe School District? Do you have suggestions or ideas on how to rectify them?
A: The High School embracing the Common Core Standards is a huge step in the right direction and I am excited about that. The district continues to hire high quality teachers and administrators that understand and can execute the districts goals and visions.
