On Monday, May 24, the Monroe school board:

• Approved the purchase of 23 SmartBoards at a cost of $85,343.

• Approved the purchase of American Democracy curriculum materials at a cost of $22,073, and United States History curriculum materials at a cost of $24,174.

• Approved the Cooperative Education Service Agency contract for the 2010-11 school year at a cost of $21,088.

• Approved the purchase of 4K math materials at a cost of $10,332.

• Hired Ashley Kimball as middle school/high school Spanish teacher; Stephanie Hammer as middle school/high school math teacher; and Ryan Thompson as middle school gym teacher and health teacher.

• Approved the retirement of Kathy Patrick, Northside Elementary School second grade teacher.

• Accepted $10,199 from Monroe Excellence in Education to help fund eight educational enrichment programs in the district.

• Accepted a $4,000 donation from the Monroe Optimist Club.

• Heard a report about the district's 4K program.

• Heard a report about a new math program that uses computers to help high school students with algebra and geometry.
