MONROE — An elderly Monroe man is dead after falling from an electronic bicycle last week.

At about 9:59 a.m. on July 10, Monroe Police were called to a multi-tenant rooming facility in the 1100 block of 30th Street on Monroe’s far south side for a report of a person injured after a fall from an e-bike in the facility’s parking lot.

The man was semi-conscious and was transported to the SSM Monroe Clinic Hospital, according to Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley. The man, identified as David M. Solon, 72, of Monroe and a resident at the facility, later died from his injuries.

Monroe Police officers investigated the incident and determined that no other vehicles or persons were involved in the incident, that the victim was alone and somehow thrown from the e-bike while it was in motion.

“The victim fell to the pavement, and those injuries contributed to his death,” Kelly said.

Kelley said the Green County Coroner’s Office and Monroe Police met with the victim’s family and shared the results of the investigation.

Because this was not a motor vehicle and was on private property rather than a roadway, this is not considered a motor vehicle accident and not a traffic fatality, he added.
