Monroe Parks and Rec Dept. offering swimming lessons

MONROE - Monroe Municipal Swimming Pool will be starting the following swimming lessons in upcoming weeks:

• ARC special needs swimming lessons for 7-12 year olds will be on Mondays from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. June 13 through July 25, with free swim from 5:45 to 6 p.m. The cost is $12 for resident (R) or $22 for non residents (NR).

• ARC special needs swimming lessons for 13-year-olds and up will be held Wednesdays from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. with free swim from 5:45 to 6 p.m. June 15 through July 27. The cost is $12R/ $22NR.

• Parent and child swimming instruction for children 6 months to 4 years old will be Mondays through Fridays. There will be two sessions: From 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. July 5-8 and from 12:20 to 12:50 p.m. July 25-29. (A parent/guardian must be with each child.) The cost is $20 R/$30NR.

• Preschool Aqua Swim Lessons: Aqua swim lessons are for children ages 3-5 years old who do not fear the water; they will work with a swim instructor on learning how to submerge themselves. These classes are for children who are comfortable without their parents in the water with them. Classes are Monday through Thursday with Fridays reserved for make-up sessions due to inclement weather. The cost is $30R/$40NR.

• Skippers I is for ages 3 and 4. The objective is to focus on water adjustment, safety and basic swimming skills. Skills learned will be to submerge the mouth, nose and eyes, water entries and exits and water safety. Lessons will be Mondays through Thursdays from 12:20 to 12:50 p.m. June 13-23 and July 11-21.

• Skippers 2 must have passed Skippers 1 and is for ages 4 and 5. The objective of Skippers 2 is to begin development of the fundamental swimming skills of submerging the entire head, performing assisted kicking on front and back and floating on front and back without support. Lessons will be Mondays through Thursdays from 12:20 to 12:50 p.m. June 27 through July 7 and Aug. 1-11.

• Public swim lessons are available for swimmers 42 inches tall and entering 4K to 8th grade. Lessons are from 11 to 11:50 a.m. August 1-12, Monday through Friday for two weeks. The cost is $35R/$45NR.

• Adult swim lessons are available for swimmers 18 years or older, on Thursday nights for two sessions. Session 1 is June 16 through July 30 and session two is July 14-28. Lessons are from 5:15 to 6 p.m. and the cost per session is $10R/$20 NR.

• A Red Cross Lifeguard Training Class will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 5-8 at the pool. This class is offered to 15-year-olds or older by July 5. The cost is $100R/$115 NR.
