MONROE - A 30-year-old Monroe man was jailed over the weekend after he allegedly stabbed another man in a drunken dispute over a woman.
Joshua J. Powers faces a tentative charge of assault with a knife, according to a release from the Monroe Police Department.
Police arrested Powers outside his home in the 900 block of 10th Street at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, after responding to a report of a man with stabbing injuries being treated at the Monroe Clinic ER.
The 36-year-old victim was hospitalized for serious but not life-threatening injuries after being stabbed "several times," Chief of Police Fred Kelley said.
The dispute took place at Powers' home, according to Kelley. Initial investigation indicates alcohol was involved.
"All the persons there seemed to have been drinking," Kelley said. Powers was "angered over a relationship with a female."
The case remains under investigation. Charges had not yet been filed in Green County Circuit Court as of early Monday afternoon, Oct. 7.
