JANESVILLE — A Monroe man was one of five people, including a 6-month-old baby, transported by ambulance from a three-vehicle crash south of Evansville Sunday afternoon, July 21, according to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
Bradley R. Butler, 24, Monroe, had to be extricated from his 2012 Chevy Silverado using the Jaws of Life. He was taken by ambulance to Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The accident happened at about 1:10 p.m. at the intersection of Wis. 213 and County A, Town of Magnolia. The initial investigation found Butler was eastbound on County A when he failed to stop at the stop sign, entered the intersection and struck a southbound 2005 Ford F150 and a northbound 2018 Dodge Ram.
The driver of Ford, Olivia G. McCarthy, 26, Footville, and her passenger William G. Haggerty, 25, also had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life. Both were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
A 6-month-old girl in their vehicle was property restrained in a carseat but was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
The driver of the Dodge, Michael A. Hurley, 59, Evansville, reported no injuries initially on scene. He was taken to the hospital for a precautionary evaluation.
All three vehicles sustained heavy damage in the crash. The sheriff’s office anticipates Butler will be cited for inattentive driving and failure to stop at a stop sign causing bodily harm. The crash remains under investigation.
Evansville police and firefighters from Evansville, Footville and Janesville assisted deputies on scene, as did a first-response medical doctor from Mercyhealth.
The intersection was closed nearly three and a half hours, with the Rock County Highway Department using barricades to detour traffic.
