MONROE - A Monroe man was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting a teenage girl after he forced her to perform sexual acts against her will.
Austin James Bates, 18, faces a Class D felony charge of child enticement and a Class G felony charge of third-degree sexual assault. Bates also faces misdemeanor charges of child enticement and exposing his genitals to a child.
The charges stem from an incident on May 14, when Bates and the victim met in Monroe. The victim claimed Bates attempted to physically force her to perform a sex act despite her protests.
According to a police report, Bates had known the victim for some time before the assault. During this time, the victim claimed Bates would frequently drive past her house and repeatedly send her text messages.
The victim also claimed Bates once threatened to kill her with her own vehicle, and that "if (she) ever pissed him off bad enough, (her) parents will find her head in a bag in a ditch."
If found guilty of all charges, Bates faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison.
Bates will appear in court for an initial appearance on July 1.
