MONROE - A Monroe man was charged Friday with child abuse after he physically assaulted a teenage girl in her home on Oct. 19.

Anthony Michael Arndt, 18, was charged with two Class H felony counts of child abuse and false imprisonment, and misdemeanor counts of trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Arndt's charges stem from an incident where he reportedly entered a Monroe residence without invitation and prevented a girl from leaving her room by holding her against her bed.

According to a police report, Arndt had warned the victim that he would visit her residence earlier that night, but the victim had told him not to. When she went to her bedroom to sleep, however, she found Arndt waiting for her, having apparently entered the home unnoticed through an unlocked door.

The victim reportedly told Arndt to leave. When he refused, she threatened to tell her mother. The victim said Arndt then pinned the victim against her bed, preventing her from leaving her room. When the victim said she would scream, Arndt covered her nose and mouth with one hand and placed his other hand on her throat.

However, the victim was able to scream, warning family members of Arndt's presence.

When police arrived on scene to arrest Arndt, they also found a box cutter on his person.

Arndt signed a $2,000 signature bond Monday with conditions that he have no contact with the victim, her family, or her residence. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 9.

The maximum possible sentence for Arndt's charges is six years in prison.
