MONROE - A Monroe man was arrested late Thursday after police investigated a report that he installed a video camera in an apartment bathroom and secretly recorded two women, according to Monroe police.

Marcus T. Hendrickson, 26, Monroe, was jailed on a tentative charge of invasion of privacy with intent to record another without clothing, a Class I felony punishable by up to three-and-a-half years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Hendrickson installed the camera in the bathroom of an apartment he shared with his fiancée in the 200 block of 4th Avenue, according to Chief of Police Fred Kelley.

Without their knowledge or consent, Hendrickson reportedly used the camera to record his fiancée and a female friend of hers who was a guest in the home.

Monroe police were called to the apartment to investigate at 10:55 p.m. Thursday, after the women discovered the recording device. Officers took possession of the recording system and recordings.

Hendrickson was later arrested after he arrived back at the apartment. He is jailed pending a court appearance.

"We believe that this recording system was purchased recently based on receipts that we observed. The recordings seem to indicate a recent installation also. So, it appears this system was only in place and recording for a day or so," Kelley wrote in an email.

"Obviously we're investigating to see about other systems and recordings, so this is an ongoing investigation," he added.

Hendrickson has no criminal history in Wisconsin nor in other states, according to police records.
