MADISON - A Monroe man admitted Thursday in federal court to breaking into an area gun shop in 2010 and stealing five firearms and has agreed to pay restitution for a Belleville pharmacy robbery.

Daniel Kundert, 22, told District William Conley that he entered Hunting Woodland Co. on May 17, 2010 and took one rifle and four pistols from a display case.

In agreeing to plead guilty to theft of firearms from a licensed dealer, Kundert also agreed to pay $5,334 restitution in the uncharged armed robbery of the Belleville Hometown Pharmacy.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman declined to disclose any details about the pharmacy robbery, and a person answering the phone at the pharmacy Thursday had no knowledge of the robbery. Statistics compiled by city.data.com lists one Belleville robbery in 2010 and five in 2005.

Four of the guns taken from Hunting Woodland have been recovered, said Altman. Kundert, who was sentenced in October 2010 on drug charges, told inmates how he burglarized the gun store and where he hid some of the weapons, Altman said.

Kundert traded a Smith & Wesson pistol for three Oxycodone pills and sold a .45 caliber handgun for $100, Altman said.

An inmate informed authorities where Kundert said he had stashed firearms and a search of the site recovered at least one weapon, a towel with 'Kundert' monogrammed on it and a note Kundert had written, Altman said.

At his Oct. 25 sentencing Kundert will face a statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine; three years supervised release and restitution for the gun thefts. His actual sentencing will be fashioned from advisory guidelines which factor in the amount of loss, the seriousness of the offense, prior convictions and Kundert's timely guilty plea.

Kundert was sentenced in Green County Circuit Court in October 2010 to 2 1/2 years in prison for possessing of narcotics with the intent to deliver. He is currently serving that sentence at the Jackson Correctional Institution in Black River Falls. He also has a 2009 conviction for possessing narcotics.
