MONROE - Three Monroe streets will be torn up for reconstruction or reclamation this summer. Fourteen Monroe streets are scheduled for a recoating starting in May.

According to Monroe Engineering Supervisor Al Gerber, a full reconstruction of 16th Avenue from Sixth to Ninth streets could start as early as June.

Reconstruction includes re-base and installation of storm and sanitary sewers, curbs, gutters and sidewalk repairs.

Also set for reconstruction, but without repairs to sewers, is 18th Avenue, from First to Fifth streets, Gerber said.

Two street sections are scheduled for reclamation, 16th Street from 28th Avenue to County K, and 25th Avenue from 13th through 17th streets.

Gerber said reclamation will "probably start in August."

Reclamation involves pulling up the entire layer of blacktop, regrinding it and relaying it.

Eighth Street from Wisconsin 69 to the west edge of town will be receiving an asphalt sealcoat layer.

Monroe Street Department Supervisor Tom Boll released a list of streets scheduled for sealcoat. Most of the streets lie in the southwest quadrant of the city.

Boll said the recoating will take place "between May and June," with "a little in August."
