MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Approved bills from E&N Hughes Company, Inc. for $32,100 for work on the sewer pump at Lakeside Heights pumping station; Fehr-Graham and Associates for $2,600 for services for a storage tank on 8th Street; Town and Country Engineering for $6,300 for inspection services on Lake Drive project; and Veolia Environmental Services for $2,200 for September recycling.

• Heard from Jay Kemp from AECOM about the status of the WWTP upgrade project.

• Authorized Tom Boll, street department supervisor, to make an offer to purchase a 1990 tanker from the Rural Fire District, which would replace the city's current 1971 tanker. The purchase will be made from unspent 2012 capital funds.

• Heard from Boll on status of automated garbage collection equipment being purchased. The two new trucks should be deliverable in time for the city's new trash system to go into effect this summer. The estimated cost for each truck is $235,000. Containers for trash and recycling will be delivered directly to the residences. Boll noted the old garbage trucks will be retrofitted for use as backup vehicles.

• Reviewed quotes and authorized hiring Maddrell Excavating for supplemental snow removal services this winter.

MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

• Recommend to the council to approve the Main Street Monroe Lighted Christmas parade and event from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7.

• Approved a request to install a handicapped parking stall on north side of 1700 block of 10th St.

• Took no action on a request for time-limited parking spaces for customer pickup convenience in front of two specific stores in the downtown area.

• Went into closed session to discuss a negotiating strategy for the animal control agreement.
