MONROE - In a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Recognized Cody Bates for his recent fund raising efforts for the families of two teens killed in an accident.

• Heard from Mayor Bill Ross on his city business activities.

• Held a public hearing and passed unanimously an ordinance amending Section 5-10.5-5 of the Monroe City Code: Permitted and Conditional Uses in the M-3 Industrial Park District.

• Approved certified survey map for land located at located at the corner of 29th Avenue and 3rd Street North in Monroe (North) Business and Industry Park.

• Approved unanimously hiring George E. Thompson for Wastewater Treatment Utility Superintendent and approved employment agreement, including an annual salary of $67,000.

• Approved an amendment to the claims presented to withhold $28,879.11 for further consideration. Approved unanimously payment of remaining claims in the amount of $287,521.75.

• Approved installation of yield sign on 4th Street North at North 12th Avenue.

• Granted electrical contractor for residential only license to Eric Munz.

• Approved agent change for Class A fermented malt beverage license issued to Bowen Oil Company.

• Granted temporary alcohol beverage licenses in conjunction with outdoor beer gardens for Monroe Chamber of Commerce.

• Granted alcohol beverage licenses to Pizza Hut of Southern Wisconsin, Inc. and ABC Ventures, LLC.

• Approved unanimously change orders for west-side fire station contract with Midwest Builders, Inc.

• Approved purchase and development agreement between City of Monroe and Zuber Properties, LLC.

• Received a resolution for consideration from Alderman Michael Boyce that would give committee chairmen more control over ordering agenda items and committee times. Boyce asked that the resolution be sent to the Judiciary & Ordinance Review Committee.

• Received training on Wisconsin open meetings and records law from City Attorney Rex Ewald.
