MONROE - On Tuesday, the Monroe Common Council:
Set public hearing dates for Dec. 15 for parcels of land owned by the city and part of the Monroe Municipal Airport which were never annexed from Sylvester Township. There is another parcel near the airport owned by Russell Rufer which was not detached properly from the city to be made a part of Sylvester. The city seeks to correct the annexation issue.
Approved a resolution waiving SKOE Properties LLC from a fiscal obligation taken on unknowingly in the purchase of property from Downing Rentals, LLC. The Finance and Taxation Committee recommended Downing Rentals, LLC be pursued to collect a performance penalty and interest amounting to $3,271.45. The penalty is the result of a purchase and development agreement between Downing and the city. The land was sold at a discounted price with the understanding that taxes will bring in revenue to the city, but the value of the business did not meet the bond requirements and Downing Rentals LLC was fined for its failure to meet them.
Tabled a resolution to authorize the Monroe Fire Department's purchase of self-contained breathing apparatuses. The department's original quote was $256,000 for 36 units. The department notified the city that it may be able to secure a lower price on the equipment, dropped down to just more than $242,000. The council did approve the purchase of a new fire command vehicle, a 2016 Ford Explorer Utility, for $26,815.
Agreed to accept a bid from Precision Drive Control for traffic signal work at Wisconsin 69 and 8th Street. The bid total of $110,115 was the only one put forward for the job, but was deemed adequate by the Board of Public Works during its meeting Monday.
Approved a sanitary service agreement with Monroe Clinic to use the Pleasant View complex sewer system. Monroe Clinic requested access for its future 8-bed hospice facility to be built on the land. The written agreement was a stipulation between all parties and is based on the understanding that all costs will be shouldered by Monroe Clinic.
Authorized the purchase of a new truck for the Streets Department supervisor. The vehicle is a 2016 GMC Canyon for just more than $26,000.
Approved a request from Monroe Bible Church to hold a live Nativity scene in from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Twining Park Dec. 18 to 19.
