Monroe Common Council Bullets: June 7, 2013

MONROE - In a meeting Monday, June 4, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Approved unanimously hiring Nathan S. Foltz as a replacement police officer effective June 10 at $22.55 per hour.

• Approved on a 6-3 vote a motion to increase wages for the Recreation Department administration secretary by $2 per hour and for the summer Recreation Department office aide by $1 per hour, and to set wage rates for the temporary Recreation Department field supervisors at $13.50 per hour and for a temporary basketball instructor at $12.50 per hour, until the vacant Recreation Supervisor position is refilled. A motion to amend to divide the temporary increases from the temporary positions was defeated 2-7.

• Approved unanimously $302,000 to pay bills.

• Denied unanimously a claim for $115 for a sewer backup from Rita Chambliss.

• Approved the Monroe Balloon Rally event permit.

• Granted a dance license for Monroe Balloon Rally.

• Granted a temporary class B beer license for an outdoor beer garden to Monroe Balloon Rally Inc.

Mayor Bill Ross updated the council on his trip to Switzerland and reported that efforts to establish an informal partnership between Monroe and the city of Langnau were beginning.

Ross proclaimed June 12 as Green County Emergency Medical Service Appreciation Day.

Council President Michael Boyce reported a computer monitoring software approved by the IT Committee in 2011 had recently been used and proven to be a valuable investment.

Alderman Tom Miller thanked the city employees for their cleanup efforts after the storm last week.

Alderman Tyler Schultz announced the Green County Historical Society Museum was open for the season. The two round, stained-glass windows in the building have been replaced and five more windows are now being repaired. The building is also being tuck pointed.



MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, June 4, the City of Monroe Salary and Personnel Committee:

• Approved to start the process to hire a replacement Recreation Supervisor.

• Discussed and approved a new employee safety policy manual.



MONROE - At a meeting Monday, June 3, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Approved for payment a bill from Whitney Tree Service for $6,100 for tree removal and trimming.
