Monroe Common Council: Aug. 4, 2017

MONROE - On Tuesday, Monroe Common Council:

• Heard a report from newly-hired Cara Carper, executive director of the Green County Development corporation, including an update to plans for the business incubator and what the duties the GCDC performs, such as business retention and addition.

• Approved a bank service contract extension with First National Bank.

• Agreed to a fee schedule for dog park licenses of $30 for first dog, $5 for additional dogs and $8 for tag replacement as well as an increase to $10 for existing private city well permits.

• Okayed public special events applications. Events include: Maxwell Street Days hosted by Main Street Monroe, today through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in the downtown Square; a celebration service by Monroe Bible Church from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Twining Park; Vacation Bible School hosted by Monroe Seventh Day Adventist Church from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 14 to 18 in Twining Park; a church service event by The Potters House Church in Northeast Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20; and FAITH Benefit 5K Run/2-mile walk hosted by FAITH Addiction Awareness of Green County beginning and ending at Monroe Clinic and traveling along a pre-approved route provided by the Monroe Police Department. The event will take place from 8-11 a.m.

• Heard alderman Ron Marsh talk about a report provided to council earlier regarding the performance of the Monroe Municipal Airport. "The airport is progressing along and providing an economic benefit to our community," Marsh said.
