MONROE - Monroe Clinic is warning area residents that fraudulent phone calls are being made offering a Monroe Clinic credit card.
Hackers are using phone number-masking technology so that calls appear to be coming from the clinic, Monroe Clinic said in a news release Friday, Oct. 26. The fraudulent caller then offers a free Monroe Clinic credit card in exchange for personal account and identity information. The source of these calls is unknown.
Monroe Clinic does not offer a credit card and uses phone calls for appointment reminders and follow-up only.
As protection from potential identity theft, community members are reminded to never give personal information to any incoming call - even if the caller poses as a hospital, bank or government entity.
Anyone who has received such a call and provided the caller with personal information should contact the Monroe Police Department at 608-329-2400 or Green County Sheriff Department at 608-328-9400 immediately.
