MONROE - The Monroe Clinic has installed a phone line for people to report possible instances of swine flu.
Though only three probable cases had surfaced in Wisconsin as of Wednesday, the Clinic has created a way for people to report if they feel symptoms or feel they have come into contact with someone who might have been infected, Monroe Clinic announced Wednesday.
The swine flu hotline number is 324-1043.
The phone line will be answered seven days a week, 24 hours a day, marketing specialist Leslie Schmidt said in a statement Wednesday.
"This is the first time Monroe Clinic has had this particular type of line available for patients with symptoms," Schmidt said.
The clinic and county health departments said Monday there are plans in place in the event of swine flu in Green or Lafayette counties.
Plans include cooperation with the state, the Centers for Disease Control, Green County Emergency Management and local schools.
According to the Associated Press, there are 91 confirmed cases of swine flu in 10 states as of Wednesday. On Tuesday, the state Department of Health Services reported 20 more cases of suspected swine flu were referred to a state lab for testing. The state reported Monday it had tested 10 possible cases with no positives.
Department spokesman Seth Boffeli said late Tuesday afternoon test results were not yet in on the 20 new cases.
The illness had killed more than 150 people in Mexico, where schools have been canceled nationwide.
More information is available by calling the Green County Health Department at 328-9390 or the Lafayette County Health Department at (608) 776-4895.
