MONROE - The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission granted Monroe Clinic Echocardiography accreditation in

Adult Transthoracic Echocardiogram, which uses ultrasound imaging to determine potential problems with the blood vessels near the heart.

The status of accreditation is a three-year term awarded after a panel of experts performed a thorough review of Monroe Clinic's cardiology operational and technical components.

On average, one American dies every 39 seconds of cardiovascular disease: disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Echocardiography is one tool used for early detection of life-threatening heart disorders. The effectiveness of an echocardiogram is dependent on not only the technology but also on the skill of the echocardiography sonographer performing the examination, the type of equipment used, and the background and knowledge of the physician.

The Monroe Clinic's cardiology team provides patients with expertise on heart disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The team emphasizes use of imaging diagnostics, working to avoid surgery whenever possible. Monroe Clinic offers angioplasty and the insertion of cardiac stents, enhanced cardiac catheterization and angiography imaging suites, specialized electrophysiology care to detect heart rhythm abnormalities and a state-of-the-art cardiac rehab gym for healing and heart-health maintenance.
