Monroe City Council: Week of April 18, 2016

MONROE - On Monday, the Monroe Common Council:

• Recreated section 3-13-12 of city code to make special event permit fees $25 for all applicants. Previously, some charitable groups were exempt from the fee.

• Held a public hearing regarding the adoption of the Monroe Comprehensive Plan. Southwest Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission's Troy Maggied presented information on how the plan is laid out, including its appearance and explained there are goals for each category toward improvement within the city. He added that to make the plan more user-friendly, information-heavy charts and diagrams were included as an appendix to the full document.

• Agreed to release the city lien on property owned by Wisconsin Pallet and Storage LLC located in the Monroe Industrial Park in order for the company to receive financing through the U.S. Small Business Administration.

• Approved the Vibram Birdie Bash Disc Golf Tournament special event at Twining Park on May 1 on the condition that insurance forms are received by the city before the date of the event.



On Tuesday, the Monroe Common Council:

• Recognized outgoing Mayor Bill Ross with a speech by alderman Reid Stangel outlining the 18 years Ross served as mayor, noting his contributions to the city through the development of Main Street Monroe and the Badger State Trail connections as well as support for Parks and Recreation projects.

• Administered via the city clerk the oath of office to all elected officials.

• Elected Stangel as council president.

• Appointed The Monroe Times as the city's official newspaper.
