On Monday, Dec. 13, the Monroe school board:
Adopted a new policy that added one more credit to high school graduation requirements. Students will need 25 credits to graduate rather than 24. Another science credit was added to the requirements. The new requirements will begin with the class of 2015.
Accepted a virtual school advertising plan at a cost of about $100,000 to help advertise the district's virtual school. Board member Larry Eakins said it was the same amount as the district authorized last year.
Hired Andrea Brunner to be an assistant at the Monroe Public Library. She will work for 16 hours a week at the library.
Accepted a donation of $750 from Exxon Mobil for a career education program; a donation of $300 from Mary Friedrichs to purchase library books for the three elementary schools; a $100 donation from the Monroe Kiwanis for the middle school holidays activities; and $100 from the Salvation Army for needy students.
Recognized Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy teachers Nicole Lutzke and Linda Moser for receiving national teacher certification.
Recognized Abe Lincoln teacher Sue Leuzinger for her work with the district and with other teachers in the district.
Recognized students Brok Bertalot, Abe Lincoln; Cael Losenegger, Northside Elementary School; Laurel Houston, Parkside Elementary School; Emily Frankowski, Monroe Middle School; Adriana Mendez; Monroe Alternative Charter School; and Tyler Witt, Monroe High School for their leadership and willingness to help other students.
