Monroe City Council: Oct. 7, 2008

MONROE - On Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Monroe City Council:

• Set a public hearing date of Nov. 5, for an ordinance repealing and recreating chapter 18 of title 5 of the Monroe city code: Storm Water Management and Construction Site Erosion Control. The changes incorporate new state changes, and the ordinance wording has already met Department of Natural Resources approval.

• Approved claims in the amount of $488,695.32.

• Approved special events for Monroe High School homecoming parade from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 10, and for Green Haven Family Advocates scavenger hunt from 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Oct. 13 in Twining Park.

• Granted operator licenses to Angelina M. Masseur and Elizabeth S. Baker.

• Granted a wholesale beer license to Libertas, Inc., of Minnesota, to become effective Oct. 10. According to City Clerk Carol Stamm, the company will have its beer brewed at Minhas Brewery and shipped to Minnesota. State Department of Revenue laws require the issuance of the wholesale license.

• Approved Patrick J. Doyle to be the agent for the "Class B" liquor and fermented malt beverage license issued to Green County House, Inc.

• Approved and accepted the storm water management practices maintenance agreement between Green County and the city. The agreement comes in conjunction with the county Justice Center project. The city will pay 40 percent of the design and construction of the storm water retention pond, and 100 percent of extended storm sewer pipe along Sixth Street. The county and the city each maintain a portion of the watershed, pond and pipes.

• Passed, on an 8-2 vote, a resolution to levy special assessment in the amount of $50,999.62 for new sidewalk construction areas. Aldermen Jan Lefevre, Ward 4, and Thurston Hanson, Ward 7, voted against the resolution.
