MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

• Approved special event permits and recommended Common Council approval for Monroe Main Street annual Lighted Christmas Parade event, Dec. 5; Monroe Bible Church Drive-thru Living Nativity event, Dec. 12-13; and Monroe United Methodist Church Caroling on the Street, Dec. 19.

• Discussed changing traffic flow and designating a drop-off zone for Northside School. Action was postponed for further information.



MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Approved bills from Whitney Tree Service for $8,680 and $4,835 for tree stump removals and trimming; E&N Hughes Construction for $690,600 for 2014 utility improvement projects; Ramaker for $3,300 for pool equipment replacement; Fehr Graham engineering firm for $17,340, $12,630 and $10,150 for preliminary engineering work on 8th Street improvements; SEH engineering firm for $3,600 for 2013 utility improvements; AECom for $49,900 for WWTP construction oversight; Miron for $785,000 for WWTP construction.

• Reviewed labor and equipment quotes and recommended hiring Maddrell Excavating of Monroe for snow removal on the Square, surrounding street, parking lots, and courts, as needed. Maddrell submitted the lowest quote of $82 an hour for 14-yard trucks with operators.

• Discussed truck traffic on 21st Street, 30th Street and 11th Avenue. City Engineering Supervisor Al Gerber informed the board that 21st Street was built for heavy traffic and is a main arterial feed for Wisconsin 69. No action was taken to reroute traffic.

• Postponed discussion of the public works mission statement.
