MONROE - In a meeting Wednesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:
Passed unanimously a resolution repealing and recreating Chapter 18 of Title 5 of the Monroe City Code: Storm water management and construction site erosion control.
Approved, on a vote of 7-1, a six-month pay raise for clerk's office confidential administrator assistant, Diane Updike, from $12.50 per hour to the rate of $14 per hour, effective Nov. 8. Alderman Neil Hunter voted against the resolution. Hunter would not comment on his vote.
Voted unanimously to hire Bridget McGinty as a replacement wellness specialist at Behring Senior Center effective Dec. 1 at a probationary rate of $14.72 per hour.
Approved a no-parking zone on the west side of the 800 block of 13th Avenue from a point beginning at the cul-de-sac to a point 260 feet south from Nov. 15 to March 31 each year, and directed the Monroe Street Department to install no-parking signs during the season.
Granted an electrical contractor license to Forward Electric, Inc., and an electrical journeyman license to James Handel.
Approved unanimously the airport operations contract between the City of Monroe and Touch & Go Aviation, Inc., for the period Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2009. Changes to the previous contract with the company includes a reduction of pay from $46,380 to $25,000 yearly; a reduction of hours from 24 hours on-call to regular business hours; direction and/or scheduling of seasonal or part-time city staff for grounds and runway care and for additional snow removal during regular business hours, and all staff after business hours.
Aldermen Paul Hannes and Keith Ingwell were absent.
