MONROE - In a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:
Approved items on the consent agenda, including miscellaneous licenses and payment of bills.
Held a public hearing and approved on a vote of 6-1, with Charles Koch against, changes to the city ordinance that will increase the number of Class A alcohol beverage licenses.
Approved revisions to the permit fees for building inspection and zoning services and fire department services.
Authorized hiring Scott Feldt as a part-time Parks Department laborer effective May 11 at the rate of $16.32 per hour.
Approved Main Street Monroe Concerts on the Square for 2015 and American Legion Zilmer-Riley Post 84 Memorial Day parade May 25.
Authorized closing a portion of the 1000 block of 24th Avenue from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 for an auction.
Granted a temporary Class B beer license in conjunction with an outdoor beer garden to Knights of Columbus for Green County Outlaw Football games in 2015.
Granted an amendment to the Class B license for Leisure Lanes to temporarily extend premises in conjunction with an outdoor beer garden during car shows in 2015.
Granted temporary Class B beer and wine licenses in conjunction with outdoor beer gardens to Green County Humane Society for Concerts on the Square in 2015.
Authorized hiring Fehr Graham to design and oversee the bidding process for the 8th Street project, from Wisconsin 69 to 6th Avenue West, at a cost of up to $324,000. The actual cost is dependent upon city decisions of options for the reconstruction of the road and utilities. Construction is estimated to begin in the spring of 2016.
Mayor Bill Ross proclaimed May as Foster Care Month in Monroe.
Ross issued a proclamation honoring Martha Bernet and Bernie Schulz for their years of service at Big Radio. Bernet celebrates 60 years, and Schulz celebrates 43 years.
Main Street Monroe Director Jordan Nordby introduced himself and presented events and highlights for 2015. Nordby began his position in January. The first of the Concerts on the Square series and First Thursdays Shopping Nights begin Thursday. The summer event, themed "Asquarium," begins June 13.
Aldermen Jeff Newcomer and Louis Armstrong were absent.
