MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
Approved for payment bills from Excel Cleaning and Building Maintenance for $16,000 for power washing the downtown parking ramp and from Whitney Tree Service for $2,790 for tree removal and trimming.
Approved change order No. 9 for the wastewater treatment plant upgrade project, on a 4-1 vote with Charles Koch voting against. The change order for additional work at $155,800 constitutes 13 pre-approved, city directives. Changes ordered for the project now total $654,000, a cost representing 2.6 percent more than the original bid of $24.8 million. Director of Public Works Colin Simpson said 5-7 percent is considered typical.
MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:
Postponed a request from St. Victor Church to remove a handicap parking space on the street, pending changes to the agenda in regard to a correction of the address and the addition of consideration to replace the space with no parking.
Approved special event permits for Quest Industrial open house, May 31; Heartland Series - Wisconsin Leg Run, June 7-8; Main Street Monroe Farmin' on Square Summer Kickoff Festival, June 7; and Monroe Balloon Rally, June 13-14.

Recommended amending the Monroe City Code to add commercial animal establishments as a conditional use in the M-3 industrial park districts.

Recommended a new fee schedule for sound permits. The schedule distinguishes amplified sound and background music and offers permits on a daily, monthly or annual basis.
