MONROE - In a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

- Held a public meeting and voted unanimously to change the city code restricting large vehicle and trailer parking on public streets.

- Set a public hearing for June 6 for an ordinance rezoning property at 916 17th St. from medium density residential to general business.

- Voted unanimously to approve a certified survey map for A&K Properties, LLC for land in the Monroe (North) Industrial Park.

- Voted unanimously to approve a $250 donation to the American Legion to cover Memorial Day expenses.

- Voted unanimously to approve the hiring of Elizabeth Sorn as the assistant senior center coordinator at a starting wage of $15.61 per hour effective June 25.

- Voted unanimously to approve $553,800 to pay bills.

- Approved George Carden Circus, May 18, and American Legion Zilmer-Riley Post No. 84 Memorial Day parade and ceremony, May 28.

- Approved the installation of two handicapped parking stalls on the west side of 1400 block of 20th Avenue.

- Granted miscellaneous licenses.

- Granted a temporary class "B" beer license to Green County Humane Society for an outdoor beer garden in conjunction with Concerts on the Square series. Sara Conway and Jan Lefevre voted against the measure in a voice vote.

Comptroller Bridget Schuchart and Rath presented the 2013 annual budget schedule. Schuchart said she and Rath will be working to bring more information and explanations into the budget document to keep the council members better informed and to help make their budget decisions easier. Rath outlined the budget document and its uses and the roles of the principal staff members involved in preparing and setting city budgets.

Alderman Michael Boyce was absent.
