On Tuesday, March 4, the Monroe City Council:
Set a public hearing date of March 18 to change the wording of a city code that would include show of prepayment, in lieu of proof, of licensing and prepayment of rabies vaccination from a licensed veterinarian.
The recommendation came from the Judiciary and Ordinance Review Committee, after hearing from Green County Humane Society president Yvonne Schutte and board member Paul Barrett about a recent situation in which an animal impound employee had to accompany an animal to receive its rabies shot from a veterinarian in Brodhead, before allowing the animal's release.
Accepted a gift, by recommendation of the Finance and Taxation Committee, of $8,306 from Robert and Helen Stauffer to be used for the purchase of two additional pieces of exercise equipment for the Behring Senior Center.
Authorized the hiring of Single Source of Brookfield, Wis., to assist in acquiring right of way for the Eighth/Ninth Street project at a cost not to exceed $86,350, as outlined in their proposal on file in the city clerk's office.
Public Works Director Kelly Finkenbinder told aldermen that no part of the cost was being shared by the state, and that the cost, as the entire project, was included in the budget.
Alderman Mark Coplien requested that, in any right of way acquired, the front lot boundary marks be re-pinned.
Approved claims in the amount of $334,975.24.
Granted approval for the Monroe Main Street St. Patrick's Day Parade event from 5 to 6 p.m. March 17. The permit covers the area within 10th and 13th streets and 16th and 17th avenues.
Granted an operator license to Paul M. Albright.
Granted a temporary Class "B" fermented malt beverage license to the Green County Harmony Chorus for a special event to be held March 15 at the St. Victor School gym.
Approved Ernest Gebhardt, Jr. to be the agent for the Class "B" liquor and fermented malt beverage license issued to the American Legion Inc.
