MONROE - In a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Finance and Taxation Committee:

- Implemented a fund balance policy, but with the specific fund amount to be determined later.

- Discussed options for funding the 8th/9th Street project and the effects on the city's bond rating. The issue will be take up again in two weeks.

- Extended the current contract with BZA (Building, Zoning & Assessment Consultants, LLC) through 2011.

MONROE - In a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

- Approved hiring Diane Updike as a Police Department support services worker I at an hourly rate of $15.38.

- Approved about $276,000 to pay bills.

- Approved a revised sidewalk café permit for Baumgartner Cheese Store, Inc. and amended the premises description for its "Class B" liquor license.

- Heard from Police Chief Fred Kelley who introduced the Police Department 2010 annual report.

- Heard Kelley's report on the mutual aid sent to the state Capitol. The Police Department will be reimbursed about $7,320 for the costs.
