MONROE — On Jan. 21, the Monroe Common Council:
● Appointed Ron Spielman to fill the unexpired term of Bill Schwaiger on the city Senior Citizens Board.
● Recognized employees for length of service with the city, from five to 40 years.
● Removed a no parking zone on the east side of the 900 block of 25th Avenue by request of a resident within the block.
● Heard a request by Alderman Ron Marsh to remove the debt of 16 city departments which he said were over budget and required by state law to be addressed.
● Set operator, or beverage server, license fees at $50 for the 2019-20 license period.
● Appointed Tim Kubly to fill the unexpired term of Ray Jones on the city Senior Citizens Board.
● Granted a temporary Class “B” Fermented Malt Beverage License to the Monroe Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with a Business After 5 event to be held at Sugar River Bank.
● Joined Alderwoman Brooke Bauman in thanking Recreation Director Marge Klinzing for organizing a reception prior to the meeting to honor service award recipients. Klinzing herself was recognized for her 40th year with the city.
