MONROE — On Monday, the Monroe Common Council:

●   Set a public hearing for rezoning property no. 161, just over one-third of an acre in the W4000 block of Middle Juda Road, as recommended by the Plan Commission for March 18. The rezoning would be from TR-10, or one and two family residential, to DR-8, which is classified as duplex residential. 

●   Approved a special event permit for the Green County Family YMCA to hold the Run Before You Crawl Celtic 5K/10K Run from 7 a.m. to noon on March 9 around the YMCA. The run begins and ends in the 1200 block of 2nd Street, and includes temporary closures of the east side parking lanes of Twining Park Road and parts of the east side parking lanes of 14th Avenue in the 100 to 500 blocks.

●   Amended a temporary Class “B” fermented malt beverage license issued to Monroe Chamber of Commerce for a Business After 5 event on March 21 at Sugar River Bank in Monroe.

●   Granted a temporary amendment to include the parking lot east of Suisse Haus to be used as a beer garden during the Celtic Pub Crawl on March 9.

●   Established City Hall as a polling location for all residents within Monroe for the upcoming April election.

●   Heard comments from Alderman Rob Schilt thanking the city Streets Department employees for their snow removal work in light of recent inclement weather.

On January 18:

● At 3:51 p.m., Deputies, along with New Glarus PD, New Glarus EMS, and New Glarus FD responded to the N8000 block of STH 69, in the Town of New Glarus, for a reported two vehicle crash with injuries. The investigation found that a vehicle operated by Caleb J. Murphy, 19, of Wisconsin Dells was traveling north on STH 69 and began slowing down to turn. A vehicle being operated by Lindsay N. Siflinger, 27, of Elkhart Lake, behind Murphy, did not see Murphy slowing down and collided with the rear of Murphy’s vehicle. Murphy advised he was uninjured and wearing his seatbelt. Murphy’s passenger, Brian J. Murphy, 56, of Wisconsin Dells, also advised he was wearing his seatbelt and was later transported to the hospital by New Glarus EMS. Siflinger advised she was wearing her seatbelt and was uninjured.  Both vehicles involved sustained disabling damage, with no airbag deployment, and were towed from the scene. The investigation resulted in Siflinger being cited for Failure to Maintain Control and was released pending court.  

On January 20:

● At 10:15 p.m., Deputies and Brodhead PD responded to a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway, causing a traffic hazard, in the N600 block of CTH G, Town of Spring Grove. After an investigation, Nichole R Tobler, 31, Davis, IL, was arrested for OWI 1st offense - alcohol. She was cited for OWI 1st and Operating Left of Center. She was released to a responsible party pending a court date.

On January 21:

● At 11:52 p.m., deputies stopped a vehicle for a defective headlamp in the W3200 block of CTH C, Town of Albany. Bryce P Eichelkraut, 24, Monticello, was arrested for OWI 1st Offense - Alcohol. He was cited for OWI 1st and Operating a Motor Vehicle w/Defective Headlamp, and was released to a responsible party pending a court appearance.
