MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

- Approved a permit, contingent upon proper insurance being presented, for Monroe Main Street to display about 25-30 carved wood pieces around the square during summer of 2011. The wooden animals range from 3 to 12 feet in height. Monroe Main Street is expected to have attained its organization status separate from the city by the start of the event.

- Approved for payment $1,860 from Whitney Tree Service for tree trimming and removal, and $1,500 from Fehr-Graham and Associates from 8th and 9th street detour signage project.

- Recommend to the council to hire Fehr-Graham and Associates for $12,900 for environmental consultant services for 8th/9th Street project.

- Authorized negotiations with AECOM of Madison fora contractfor wastewater treatment plant facilities planning.

- Authorized Street Department to seek quotes for replacement of waste oil furnace. The present furnace is 14 years old, with more than 10,000 hours of use. Because of its age, parts for repairs are no longer available. A replacement furnace is estimated to cost about $8,000.

MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

- Approveda request for cautionary traffic signs for a hearing impaired child in 2200 block of 4th Avenue West.
