MONROE - In a meeting Monday, April 14, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Rescinded a correction, made March 31, from the minutes of March 17.

• Dismissed quotes for rubber roof maintenance on the City Hall and Police Department. A motion to make a request for bid proposals for the project passed unanimously.

• Discussed and denied by consensus a request for more credit on a sewer bill from Dr. Carlos Jaramillo. The city had already extended $150 credit, based on its policies. Dr. Jaramillo said the excessive bill resulted mostly from frozen pipes on an irrigation system, which he viewed as an act of God and for which the city should not bill its customers.

• Approved a bill from Fehr Graham for $1,000, for preparing an application for reimbursement in regard to a 7-8th Street buried storage tank. The reimbursement was for $17,200, but the city has a $10,000 deductible.

• Approved, upon review and approval of the director of public works, several pending permit applications for minor utility work, which were caught under the board's moratorium that began April 1.

• Accepted the quote from and recommended hiring Midwest Sealcoat, Dodgeville, for $15,500 to repair about 800 feet of cracks and resurface four tennis courts in Recreation Park, plus the option to use a RiteWay crack repair system for an additional $6,000. The project was budgeted at $24,000.

• Approved the quotes and recommended hiring Green County Highway Department for $21,522 for rubberized crack sealing for city streets for 2014. The county department also offered the option of allowing the city to supplement the labor with its own employees, if available, to reduce costs.

• Approved purchasing traffic paint and glass spheres for parking lots, crosswalks, streets, etc. from The Sherwin Williams Company, Madison, for a total of $8,200.

• Authorized the city to join the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in its 2014/2015 salt renewal bid.

MONROE - At a meeting Monday, April 14, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Voted unanimously to approve items in the consent agenda: paying bills totaling $408,700 and granting miscellaneous licenses.

• Held a public hearing and voted unanimously to rezone property located at 911 8th St. from B-1 (Central Business District) to B-2 (General Business District).

• Voted unanimously to approve a property tax refund of $36,600 to SC Data Center, Inc. and a related agreement. SC Data and the city have acknowledged an error was made in the preparation of the company's personal property tax statement. The city's portion of the refund is $13,800, and the balance of $22,900 will be charged to other taxing entities. The additional agreement covers the city's risk in absorbing the non-city portion, if the Department of Revenue fails to approve the requested refund adjustment.

• Voted unanimously to approve a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Monroe, The Tavern League of South Central Wisconsin and Brown Cab Service, Inc., outlining the agreement between the three parties related to the late-night (safe-ride) cab service.

• Approved an addendum to the city's agreement with Brown Cab Service, Inc., setting the hours and rate charged by Brown Cab Service for calendar year 2014 and adds the late-night (safe-ride) hours.

• Approved Green County Conservation League educational event from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2 in Honey Creek Park.

City Clerk Carol Stamm reported the election results from the Municipal Board of Canvassers.
