MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

Approved a permit application for Monroe Theatre Guild to extend a building marquee at 910 16th Ave. that will extend about 30 inches over the sidewalk .

Approved bills from Whitney Tree Service for $4,900 for tree removal along 8th and 9th streets, and from Soil and Engineering Services for $3,400 for soil borings for the water mains in downtown Monroe. The soil boring bill will be charged to TID No. 7.

Authorized hiring Tony Anglin for extra snow removal around the Square at a rate of $60 per hour for trucks and $70 per hour for front-end loader.

Member Charles Schuringa and alternate member Dan Henke were absent.

MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

Toured the new westside fire station on West 17th Street.

Authorized replacing stop signs at 10th Street and 18th Avenue with larger signs for increased visibility.

Authorized one-way, west-bound traffic in the 2000 block of 15th Street on school days between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. St. Victor School requested the change for more safety for students being dropped off and picked up at the school.
