MONROE - A Monroe boy was injured Thursday afternoon when he ran into the street and was hit by a passing vehicle, according to the Monroe Police Department.

Adre J. Bleiler, 10, sustained apparent non-life-threatening injuries in the accident at 3:37 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of 2nd Street on the city's north side. He was taken by Monroe EMS to Monroe Clinic.

The driver, Sharon S. Zschernitz, 57, Monroe, was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting him, according to Chief of Police Fred Kelley.

He "ran into the roadway at mid-block, at an area with no crosswalk," Kelley said in a release Friday morning.

No citations were issued, and the incident remains under investigation.
