MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee recommended to council to approve a special event from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 5 for Main Street Holiday Parade and Trolley Rides. Monroe Police will be posting signs at 7 a.m. calling for vehicles to be removed from the outer ring of the Square by 5 p.m. for the parade scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
Approved a permit application from TDS Telecom to directional drill and lay fiber and duct to Monroe Clinic.
Approved for payment of bills in the amounts of $3,286.63 from Green Valley Waste Disposal for October recycling and $1,350 from Whitney Tree Service LLC for tree removal.
Approved the purchase of a heating/cooling unit for the Fire Department office area, the cost of which will be paid from funds remaining ($14,000) from the City Hall boiler replacement fund. Director of Public Works Kelly Finkenbinder said the system failed again this year, because of its age. Past repairs have been costing between $1,000 and $1,500 each.
Accepted quotes and authorized hiring J & R Excavating, Monroe, in the amount of $3,643.75 for about 430 feet of streambank restoration in the area southeast of Third Avenue and Seventh Street. Green County will pay about 70 percent of the costs.
Recommended to council to amend the amount of revenue from $140,000 to $151,369, beginning Jan. 1, 2009, to be set in the equipment replacement fund of the wastewater treatment plant utility.
Charles Schuringa was absent; Dan Henke was the alternate.
