SUN PRAIRIE - Junior point guard Sydney Hilliard scored a game-high 32 points and the Monroe girls basketball team smashed Jefferson 68-31 in a WIAA Division 2 sectional title Saturday.

With the win, Monroe (24-2), ranked No. 4 in the Division 2 Associated Press state poll, punched their ticket to the Division 2 state tournament for the second straight year in Green Bay. After a Sunday conference call, Monroe was awarded the No. 2 seed and will play third-seeded New Berlin Eisenhower (23-3) in a Division 2 state semifinal at 3:15 p.m. Friday at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

"I'm just excited they get to experience the state tournament," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "You feel fortunate the team will have that opportunity."

In the other Division 2 state semifinal, Beaver Dam, the defending state champion, received the No. 1 seed and will play Hortonville, which is making its second straight state tournament appearance.

Monroe's game against New Berlin Eisenhower will be a rematch; the Cheesemakers knocked off New Berlin Eisenhower 65-47 Nov. 25.

"It's one of those situations where you just try to present the information like any other seeding meeting," Mathiason said of the conference call. "It's the entire body of work we have done in the season. I think that (No.) 2 seed is a credit to these kids and the team."

Black Hawk rolled to an 81-41 win over Hustisford in a WIAA Division 5 Oconomowoc sectional final to return to state for the first time since 2011.

Black Hawk (27-0), ranked No. 1 in the Division 5 AP state poll, received the No. 1 seed and will play Newman Catholic (21-6) in a Division 5 state semifinal at 9:05 a.m. Friday in Green Bay.

"We really believe we were deserving of that (No.) 1 seed," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "The seeding is meant to get the best two teams in the championship game. Any team left in it is really good. Any team in it can argue the caliber of their nonconference schedule. Any time there is a human factor, we are all humans and there could be human error. Regardless of the seeds, they are all really good teams."
