MONROE - Registrations are being accepted for the art class series "Tips, Tricks, and Techniques" to be taught by professional artist Deborah Meyer. This four-week series, for all levels of students age 18 and older, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28 at Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St.
This class will focus on sharing techniques that Meyer has learned during the years she has been painting. Each artist will choose the subject matter that inspires and work in the mediums they prefer. Meyer will be presenting demos throughout the class that will teach each participant how to use their materials to their fullest potential. All mediums and levels of experience are welcome.
Participants are asked to bring the mediums of choice: acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, watercolor pencils, graphite or water-soluble oils. Supplies should include a sheet of plastic to protect classroom tables, brushes and application materials appropriate to the medium, as well as paper, canvas or board as a substrate. Reference material should be printed, as it is very difficult to paint from an electronic device.
Meyer majored in art and has had a the creative arts including advertising and interior design. She has been painting consistently since 1998 and teaches a variety of workshops at all levels. She works predominantly in acrylic and oil, and is a realist painter, taking elements of nature and exploring the abstract character of them. Her method of work involves layering multiple applications of glazes to achieve a depth and complexity in the style of the Old Masters.
She is a member of the Momentum Art Guild and International Society of Acrylic Painters.
The fee for the four-week series is $100. The fee for MAC members is $90. Participants must register by Friday.
