DARLINGTON - The Lafayette County Library Planning Committee, in cooperation with Lafayette County UW Extension, announced its activities during Money Smart Week in Lafayette County.
Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign to promote financial literacy across all age groups. Launched in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the program is now active in more than 45 states through national partnerships with the American Library Association and the Financial Planning Association.
This year's observance of Money Smart Week will be held April 20 through April 27. Local bankers, financial planners, teachers, and community leaders from several communities will be volunteering their time to promote financial awareness.
The following is a list of scheduled presentations in Lafayette County communities during Money Smart Week, which are open to the public:
David Eaton, financial planner, will speak to the Darlington High School economic classes on "Basic Investing" on Friday, April 19 at Darlington High School.
A First National Bank and Trust representative will demonstrate "The Use of Internet Banking" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 22 at Argyle Public Library.
A Darlington Police Department representative will speak on "Senior Scams" at noon Monday, April 22 at the Darlington Senior Center.
Lexie Buschor of Mound City Bank will speak on "Identity Theft" at noon Tuesday, April 23 at Belmont Mealsite.
Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley will speak on "Identity Theft" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 at Shullsburg Public Library.
Free early reading level books about money will be distributed to Toddler Tales programming families on Wednesday, April 24 at the Cuba City Library.
Kim Havens, financial planner, will speak on "Investing Options and Ideas" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 at the Johnson Public Library in Darlington.
A Benton State Bank representative will speak about "Online Banking" with hands-on experience at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 at the Shullsburg Public Library.
A First National Bank at Darlington representatives will speak to Darlington High School senior students on "The Use and Abuse of Credit" on Thursday, April 25 at Darlington High School.
Local police officer, Walt Fisher, will speak on "The Prevention and Awareness of Scams, Fraud and Identity Theft for small, rural communities" at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 25 at Blanchardville Viking Café, 210 S. Main St.
A Woodford State Bank representative will discuss "Identity theft" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25 at the Argyle Public Library.
A Benton State Bank representative will conduct a presentation on saving to elementary students at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at the Shullsburg Public Library.
