TOWN OF MONROE - A 78-year-old Town of Monroe man reported missing Thursday was located within hours in Indiana.

Wayne P. Kreft was last seen in Monroe around 11:30 a.m. Thursday when he told his wife he was going out for food, according to the Green County Sheriff's Office.

His wife reported him missing six hours later when she hadn't heard from him.

Kreft met the criteria for the sheriff's office to issue a Silver Alert, an alert in a public notification system that aids in the recovery of missing persons, especially senior citizens with Alzheimer's disease, dementia or other mental conditions.

Before sending out a Silver Alert, the Green County dispatch center entered Kreft into a separate alert system that goes out to other law enforcement agencies.

An hour later, at 7:50 p.m., the Hobart (Ind.) Police Department reported finding Kreft. He had been in a motor vehicle crash in their jurisdiction, but was uninjured.

Kreft drove from Monroe to Indiana, apparently in a state of confusion. His vehicle was impounded at the scene of the crash. The Kreft family is making arrangements to reunite with him.
