BELLEVILLE - The two 17-year-old Belleville girls who went missing Oct. 2 have been found in California and are safe.
Larissa Aunet and Josey Scoville were located by law enforcement in Sacramento, according to a release Friday morning from the Belleville Police Department.
Local police are working with Sacramento authorities and the girls' parents to facilitate their return.
Aunet and Scoville left town in a 1998 Saab, and according a parent, took with them a six-month-old cat. There is no evidence of foul play or trouble at home that led to their disappearance, say police.
Bill Eichelkraut, Belleville's chief of police, considers it a runaway case.
Law enforcement stopped them in Stockton, Ill., and in Nebraska, but they were released each time. Last week, a Sacramento man called Belleville police to report finding some of their personal belongings randomly dumped in his carport.
Eichelkraut said his agency won't be issuing any further info on the case until Monday.
