TOWN OF PORTER - The death of a Milton man found deceased on a creek bank in January has been ruled an accident.

Allen Brown, 80, was reported missing by his family on Jan. 7 after he didn't return home from a luncheon with a friend in Monticello. Brown's 2013 Ford Explorer was found on Jan. 16 partially submerged in Badfish Creek on the north side of Wisconsin 59 near Riley Road.

Barry Irman, director of operations at the Rock County Medical Examiner Department, said Tuesday an autopsy revealed the manner of Brown's death was accidental. Full autopsy results typically take several months to complete while lab tests are done. Irman said his office does not publicly release the cause of death.

A preliminary investigation by the Milton Police Department suggested Brown died from exposure or hypothermia.

Brown was last seen leaving Monticello at about 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 7. His disappearance set off alerts across the state, and sightings were reported as far away as Tomah.

His SUV had gone off Wis. 59, but the accident scene went undiscovered until a trapper found Brown's body nine days later on the Badfish Creek bank.
