Midway debut and other fun additions to Green County Fair

Mr. Ed's Magical Midway will debut at this year's Green County Fair, July 22-26. It offers a variety of amusement rides that will entertain patrons both young and old - children's rides, family type rides and thrill rides. Also being offered is a variety of games and food concessions for fair-goers to enjoy. The midway folks assure us that they have good equipment, courteous employees and great family values to make your fair-going experience a pleasurable one.

Because they are new to the Green County Fair, they will be doing things a little differently this year. This includes a new and varied schedule for wristband savings.

• Wednesday and Thursday: Unlimited rides, 5 p.m. to close, $15 per person

• Thursday: Two people ride for the price of one, 2 to 5 p.m.

• Friday: 10 rides for $10 , 1-5 p.m.

• Saturday and Sunday: Unlimited rides, noon to 5 p.m., $15 per person

• Saturday: Free admission to the grounds for children 12 and under until 1:30 p.m.

• Sunday: Super Saver Family Pack, 4 wristbands for $45

Regular-priced tickets always are available during operating hours. Please note that all rides have height and size requirements, so be sure to check these out before purchasing a wristband or tickets that you can not use. There will be no wristband specials after 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

A new addition to this year's fair is Bob Bohm's Family Oriented Magic Show. Bohm will present three to four shows per day. Performing illusions from his own stage, he combines lots of audience participation with bewildering magic and humor. Also included is his Survivor Family Game Shows. When not on stage, he takes magic to the people, strolling about the grounds, entertaining audiences by putting magic right in their own hands.

Also, check out the 4-H mini-revues in the Youth-In-Action Building, Thursday through Sunday. The revues offer fair-goers the opportunity to pull up a chair and view 4-Hers in action. Special revue activities include the Cloverbud Revue on Thursday, the Communication and Performing Arts presentations on Saturday, and the Swiss Colony sponsored 4-H cake decorating demonstrations and the third annual Cake Auction on Sunday. 4-Hers will be auctioning approximately 20 cakes to tempt your sweet tooth. Be sure to check for posted revue times in the Youth-In-Action building.

Saturday brings the Carrousel Farms sponsored Kiddie Pedal Pull. Classes are broken into age groups, for both boys and girls, ages 3 to 10. Entry for the pull is free and will be accepted Saturday, prior to the pull. Each participant receives a T-shirt, and the winner of each class wins a trophy. These kids really take this event seriously and they're great fun to watch.

New this year will be a celebrity pedal pull sponsored by the Sugar River Banks. Community celebrities, people whose faces you will see regularly during the fair, will be competing in this pull and just hoping the kids don't show them up. This promises to be an event worth watching.

Judging of youth and open entries takes place Tuesday through Friday on the grounds. You may find special interest in the new 4-H Dog training agility judging being held on Wednesday. Remember, everyone is welcome to stop by and observe the many different areas of judging. Kids and adults alike can learn by watching and listening to the constructive comments and helpful hints given by the judges.

See you at the 2009 Green County Fair!
