MONROE - Monroe High School will present the play "The Phantom Tollbooth" from Friday, Nov. 15 through Sunday, Nov. 17.

In the play, Milo, a disenchanted 10-year-old boy, thinks there is nothing exciting or worthwhile in the world until he receives the gift of a Phantom Tollbooth.

In Milo's adventures to the Lands of Wisdom, Dictionopolis, Digitopolis and Ignorance, he's forced to think about many new things. Milo learns of the argument between King Azaz and his brother, the Mathemagician, whose disagreement over words and numbers has led to the banishment of the two princesses, Sweet Rhyme and Pure Reason. Milo is dispatched to rescue the princesses from the Land of Ignorance. The knowledge and skills Milo picks up on his journey help him to save the princesses. When he must return home, Milo's sorry to leave his friends. But enriched by his experience, he realizes his attitude towards learning will never be the same.

The play "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Susan Nanus, is based off the book by the same name, written by Norton Juster. The high school performance is directed by Jerome Cherney. The production will start at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16 and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17.

Tickets will be available at Monroe High School office, 1600 26th St., and at the door before the play begins.

The cost will be $5 for adults, $2 for kindergarten through 12th grade students and senior citizens, and children 5 and under are free. Patrons will get $1 off their ticket price with the donation of a non-perishable food item for the Green County Food Pantry.
