MONROE - Monroe High School Assistant Principal Nick Schultek is resigning at the end of the school year, making him the third district principal to resign this year.

In his March 31 letter of resignation, Schultek said his position with the district has been "enjoyable, but family and personal considerations do not allow me to continue in my current role after June 30.

"Thank you for welcoming me into your community, and I wish you all the best in the future," Schultek wrote.

Schultek joined the district last summer after two years as principal of James E. Dottke Alternative High School in West Allis. Previously, he taught at-risk students at Nicolet Union High School in Glendale, was a social studies teacher at Waukesha West and was an assistant principal at Nathan Hale High School in West Allis. He replaced long-time assistant principal Mike Bruckwicki, who retired at the end of the 2008 school year.

The Monroe school board accepted Schultek's resignation Monday. The district will post the position to begin the search for a replacement, Superintendent Larry Brown said.

Earlier this winter, long-time Parkside Elementary School principal Jim Brunette announced his plan to retire this June after more than 30 years with the district. Eric Huinker, an elementary school principal in Norway, Iowa, has been hired to replace Brunette.

In March, Monroe Middle School principal Bill Van Meer announced his resignation to become district administrator for the Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan school district, effective June 30. Middle School assistant principal Lynne Wheeler has been named to replace Van Meer; the district is currently looking for an assistant principal at the middle school.
