MONROE - People who want a souvenir of Cheese Days can visit the Cheese Days office, located in the basement of the Green County Courthouse.
The biennial Swiss heritage celebration takes place Sept. 17 through 19 in Monroe. Thousands of people attend the festival for the Swiss music, the parade and the food. As tourists begin to make their way to Monroe this summer, the store could be a destination to purchase something from Monroe's biggest celebration. It can also serve as a reminder for them to plan a few more days in Monroe this fall.
Each year, souvenirs are sold to help commemorate the weekend. Some people collect the Cheese Days buttons, while others purchase other keepsakes to help them remember the weekend.
The Cheese Days office offers something for everyone. There are items for this year, as well as things from past Cheese Days.
The merchandise was organized a couple of months ago, said Clarissa Rueckert, who works in the store. The store will be open Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesdays until Cheese Days.
There are beer steins from 2004 and 2008, glasses from past festivals, shirts, and postcards. The items are marked down from their original prices.
For the 2010 Cheese Days, people can purchase T-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, postcards and books.
The Cheese Days festival wouldn't be complete with the Cheese Days song. People can purchase the song on a 45 rpm and also on a compact disc to help people who plan to "come to Cheese Days in Monroe" get into the spirit of the event.
The store will be open Tuesday afternoon and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays. It will be open additional hours as Cheese Days gets closer, according to Noreen Rueckert, Green County Tourism director.
More information about the store or Cheese Days is available by calling (608) 325-7771 or (800) 307-7208.
