DARLINGTON - The Darlington Police Department identified the two men involved in a fight that occurred last month during a soccer game at Darlington Middle School in a media release sent out Friday, which also said battery and disorderly conduct charges are being sought against both men.
According to the release, Jairo Andrade-Aquirre, 32, South Wayne, started the May 9 fight when he struck William Zayas, 23, Galena, Ill.
Zayas allegedly knocked Andrade-Aquirre to the ground, kicked him in the face and fled the scene before police arrived.
Andrade-Aquirre suffered several facial fractures, a broken tooth and severe bruising, authorities said. He was transported to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, and then to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison for surgery.
The game was not a school-sanctioned event, but rather a community event hosted on school grounds with the permission of the school board, according to the release. It was reportedly part of the city's Cinco de Mayo Festival.
The release did not specify whether or how the two men knew each other.
