Memorial Hospital group plans band fundraiser

DARLINGTON - The Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County Auxiliary is planning a community-wide fundraiser that includes five local bands. "Band-Aid 3" is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at Bridges Banquet Center, 201 Christensen Drive.

Tickets are on sale for $8 in advance at Memorial Hospital, First National Bank of Darlington, First Banking Center-Darlington and Benton State Bank. Tickets will be $10 at the door. All proceeds will benefit Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County as the auxiliary addresses comfort needs of patients, community and staff.

Each of the five bands will be entertaining for approximately 60 minutes.

The "Stump Fiddle Band" classify themselves as a "down-home, easy style of classic, country and gospel hits." Band members include Rick Loken, Barb Nemec, Greg McGowan, Dick Black and Dick White.

The "Swamp Bottom Boys" are a six-member local band that plays country, rock, blues, harmony and gospel. Instrumental members are Johnny "Flash" Carrington, guitar; Barb Nemec, fiddle, banjo and bass; Robert "Dr. Bob" Falsey, guitar; and Mark "Majik" Johnson, bass. Heading up vocals with Johnson are Gene Montgomery, and Tim "Bucket" Pehl.

The "Sexy Ester & Pretty Mama Sisters" of Madison took honors as best home performer, song and album of the year in the alternative category of this year's Madison Area Music Awards. Fronted by Lyndsay Evans, band members are Adam Edar on guitar, Paul Kennedy on drums, Brad Schubert on bass, and Roscoe Evans on keyboards. Evans was honored as the female vocalist of the year.

"Sunshine" plays hits from the late 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, blended with traditional and contemporary country music. The three members are Tom Bussan, Bill Eaton and Mike Dunbar.

"Transition" was formed in 1985 by four Darlington High School graduates. The group focuses on music from the Beatles, John Cougar and other 60s-80s groups. Members of Transition are Jim Jacobson on guitar, Rich Leinberger on bass guitar and keyboards, Dave McGranahan on guitar, and Steve Fitzsimons and drums.

"Band-Aid 3" will also feature food, 50/50 and "Trees for a Cause," a silent auction of decorated Christmas trees, wreaths, and other craft items.
