Meet ambassador and start thinking Cheese Days

Hello, fellow cheese-lovers. I am honored and excited to represent Green County for the 2016 Cheese Days. My name is Jana Duval Crandall and I grew up on Hefty-Blum Homestead Farms, right outside of New Glarus and Monticello. Swiss heritage runs deep in my family and boy, are we proud of it. From cheesemakers to doctors and small business owners to yodelers, we take pride in who we are and where our family originated.

I work at Quest Industrial, the nation's largest direct cheese contact robotic integrator, as their marketing manager. In this role, I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with some of the world's most renowned cheesemakers and industry leaders as well as visiting some of the most technologically advanced dairy plants in the area. These opportunities have only increased my infatuation with Wisconsin, the people and the dairy industry. This said, I look forward to promoting this year's Cheese Days through various events, broadcasts and medias.

Every month I will be sharing a short, light-hearted column that will get you ready for the 2016 Cheese Days. You can look forward to reading about topics such as how technology is changing cheese production, Swiss heritage, cheese making, yodeling, updates and new things at the festival, where to get your Cheese Days gear, and lastly "you know had a good time at Cheese Days if..."

In my column, I also will let you know about events I am attending and other things I am doing to promote the festival. You might see me this month at the World Championship Cheese Contest, held in Madison, or at the St. Patrick's Day Parade taking place in Monroe. Please wave me down to say hello, introduce yourself and take a picture. I hope you look forward not only to reading the monthly columns, but also to learning more about Green County and my role as ambassador for the festival.

If you are interested in having me or one of the other royalty honorees attend or speak at an event, please contact the Cheese Days office at 608-325-7771 or email cheesedays@tds.net. Make sure to like and follow us on Facebook, "Cheese Days Ambassador" and "Cheese Days Festival." For "cheesy" information including schedules, parade details, history of Cheese Days and more, please visit the official Cheese Days website at www.cheesedays. com. In addition, do not forget this year's button, sunglasses, and T-shirts to show your Cheese Days pride.

This year's Green County Cheese Days Festival is Sept. 16 to 18. Make sure to mark your calendars and invite your family and friends to the most entertaining weekend of the year, only seven months away.
